They are, in the strict sense, neither marble nor onyx, for onyx is a banded chalcedony composed largely of silicon dioxide. Onyx marble was the “alabaster” of the ancients, but alabaster is now defined as gypsum, a calcium sulfate rock. These marbles are usually brown or yellow because of the presence of iron oxide.

ONYX USE FOR

Onyxes are used for buildings and monuments, interior decoration, statuary, table tops, and novelties. Colour and appearance are their most important qualities. Resistance to abrasion, which is a function of cohesion between grains as well as the hardness of the component minerals, is important for floor and stair treads.  Brecciated, coloured marbles, onyx marble, and verd antique are used principally for interior decoration and for novelties.

Onyx marbles are mostly used in interior applications for decorative purposes because of its light permability and limited production. Onyx illuminated applied in lobby and foyer of public areas in order to provide visual richness with their unique decorative structures. The other usage areas of onyx marble can be front desks and top coats of bars, reception desk facades, bars and entertainmet venues column coverings and apartment entrance coatings.

As onyx marbles multi-color structure they can be used for the manufacturing of decorative objects. Chess sets, vases and figurines, jewelery and boxes, badges candle holders and various animal figures are the good examples of decorative onyx products which are mostly manufacture in Afyon and Cappadocia region of Turkey.

Because of its natural structure onyx marble can be found different colours pure white to black. Mineral variation in the structure of onyx marbles can cause different coloured and patterned onyx marble species. This natural structure make onyx marbles unique and original. SILVER ONYX AND SILVER TRAVERTINE QUARRY

Silver onyx, one of the onyx varieties, is extracted from Emirdağ Quarry, which is our own quarry as Reisoğlu Marble. While the blocks extracted from our quarries are exported, they are also offered to the market as cut-to-size products or slabs of desired thickness in our production facilities. The color transitions vary according to the block from which the silver onyx is extracted. While there are plates with dense yellow and brown colors, there are plates with intense blue and gray transitions. Silver onyx is a type of marble that attracts attention with its unique appearance when used in spaces.

ONYX TYPE OF CUT

According to cutting direction of onyx blocks; two types of apparance can be obtained. If blocks is cut parallel to waterways; veincut (Turkish Cut) slabs are obtained; whereas when block is cut vertical to waterway; cross-cut (American Cut) slabs are obtained.
